Former caretaker prime minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar regarding the wheat scandal has said that it is not the job of the prime minister to see the production of wheat.

There was a shortage of 4 million metric tons of wheat and only 34 million metric tons were imported, he said.

The former caretaker prime minister during an interview said that the artificial demand for wheat was created by the provinces. Bureaucrats who created the artificial demand are still present in important positions in the provinces, he added.

Earlier, when PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi raised the issue of wheat import on local TV show, Kakar said that if he talked about Form 47 then PML-N would hide its face.

Kakar further said that secret agencies are not accountable to the court as they are only accountable to the prime minister and the ministry of defence.

He added that he had excellent relations with Gen Asim Munir while he had made contact with former chief justice Umar Atta Bandial after his retirement. “I made a farewell call to the former chief justice Umar Atta Bandial and told him that he has completed his job, may Allah make things easier for him,” Kakar said.

He said that we don’t have a culture to say goodbye to a departed person. He added that he had changed the travel plan to UNGA to participate in the swearing-in ceremony of the new chief justice.

t should be noted that the committee investigating the wheat import scandal has denied the reports of summoning former caretaker prime minister and former caretaker chief minister Punjab Mohsin Naqvi.
