Kangana Ranaut gets BJP ticket for India elections
Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut will contest the upcoming elections as a candidate for Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party.
The general elections are scheduled to take place on April 19 in a seven phases that will continue until June 1.
The 37-year-old actor is the only Bollywood figure in recent times who has taken a plunge into politics.
She is known for her vocal support for Prime Minister Modi and his party.
The actress has been given a party ticket from her home state of Himachal Pradesh, which will head to the polls on June 1.
She made the formal announcement on X saying that she will run for election in the constituency of Mandi, her birthplace.
“I feel honoured and elated to officially join the party. I look forward to be a worthy karyakarta [worker] and a reliable public servant,” Ms Ranaut said.
She has won several awards for her acting skills, including the highly coveted National Awards a record four times.
She is also a recipient of the Padma Shree, India’s fourth-highest civilian award given for distinguished service in any field.
