Karachi on high alert for heatwave from today

There are chances of heatwave in Karachi from today, the Met Office warned, adding the temperature is likely to exceed 40 degrees Celsius.

The weather department has predicted an increase in the mercury level in the metropolis from today.

It added the heatwave situation is likely to persist in Karachi Division, Thatta, Badin and Sajawal from today till June 1. During this time, the maximum temperature in the port city is likely to reach 40 to 42 degrees Celsius while in Thatta, Badin and Sajawal are expected to reach 42 to 44 degrees Celsius.

Reports suggest more than a hundred cases of heat stroke have been reported in the last few days in the city.

According to in-charge heat stroke Dr Irfan Siddiqui, over 80 cases were reported at Jinnah Hospital and more than 50 at the Civil Hospital.

The Department of Meteorology said that the intensity of heat is being felt up to 39 degrees Celsius while the humidity ratio in the air is 78 per cent. The citizens have been advised to take precautionary measures due to the heatwave.

It should be noted that a day ago, the temperature of 52.2 degrees Celsius was recorded in Mohen Jo Daro of Sindh, which is the highest level of this summer.
