Karachi receives rain with thunderstorm

Rain started in different areas of Karachi this morning.

Rain lashed several areas including Maripur, Gulistan-e-Johar, Airport and Malir.

According to Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz, there is no possibility of unusual rain in the city today. He added there is a possibility of light rain today under the influence of western system.

Sardar Sarfaraz said that the rain would continue intermittently till the tomorrow morning. After the rain, the temperature is also expected to drop. Today, the maximum temperature is likely to be 32 degrees Celsius.

According to the Chief Meteorologist, the second spell of western winds will enter on April 17. The winds in the second system will enter Karachi from the coastal areas of Balochistan and likely to cause heavy rains.

The Meteorological Department further said there is a possibility of rain with thunder in Karachi on April 18 and 19.

Winds are blowing in the city from the northeast direction. Wind speed is recorded at 20 km per hour and the air humidity is 49 per cent, it added.

Apart from this, Karachi’s air quality is also poor. The port city ranks 14th among the most polluted cities in the world.
