KE seeks massive hike in basic tariff

Karachi-Electric (KE) on Friday asked National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) an increase of Rs10.69 per unit in the basic tariff of electricity.

According to GTV, The KE Supply Company has started preparations to make electricity more expensive for the people of Karachiites.

A formal request has been tendered to NEPRA to fix the multi-year tariff for 2023 to 2030.

In the application, the KE has asked the power authority to fix the base per unit cost to Rs44.68.

The current base average tariff of KE is Rs34 per unit, while it has sought an increase in the basic tariff under the seven-year multi-year tariff.

The power company has requested to fix the EPP component of the price of electricity at Rs18.88 per unit, while the CPP component of the price of electricity has been demanded at Rs12.54 per unit.

It has also requested to add transmission charges Rs3.48, distribution charges Rs3.84 per unit.
