Long Eid al Adha holidays expected in Pakistan

After enjoying a lengthy break during Eid Al Fitr, people in Pakistan are expected to enjoy similar number of holidays during the upcoming second major Islamic festival Eid al Adha.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Eid al Adha 2024 is likely to be observed on June 17, falling on a Monday.

It said that the crescent moon for Dhuʻl-Hijjah would be born on June 6 at 5:38 PM.

The moon’s age in Karachi at sunset will be 26 hours and 8 minutes, with an expected visibility duration of 72 minutes after sunset, said PMD.

Despite these forecasts, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will make the final decision regarding the moon sighting.

If Eid falls on 17 June, then people would enjoy holidays from June 17 to 19. Given the tendency of most government offices to remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays, the holiday period will effectively commence on June 15.

However, in the event that Eid al Adha is confirmed for June 18, the federal government is expected to adjust the holiday schedule accordingly.

A formal notification will issued in this regard later in June, just days before Eid.
