MQM-P to support any govt which endorses proposed constitutional amendments for local govt

03 December, 2023 15:48

Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) leadership in a political gathering at Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal town reiterated their stance on amending Constitution of Pakistan for empowering local government system across the country.

Syed Mustafa Kamal, a Senior Deputy Convener said that after the upcoming elections, we will support any government formed in the Centre based on a single-point agenda, considering all our past experiences.

Whoever comes to the MQM-P to become the PM or seek assistance will need to ensure the constitutional amendments proposed by the party.

In the 15 years of the Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) “misrule”, Rs20 trillion were spent, but there was no improvement, and we are buying water at exorbitant prices after building hydrants, Kamal added.

In his speech, Dr Farooq Sattar said the PPP government in Sindh had taken over the control of all departments in a clear violation of the constitution, as he criticised the centralisation policy pursued and championed by the party in the province where the local governments have very little powers.

MQM-P Convener Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said on the occasion that “we present three points [constitutional amendments] for the freedom and self-determination of the people of Pakistan. Let us accept these three points, lest we face the emergence of six points again”.
