‘Over 9,000 patients need urgent evacuation from Gaza’

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has said 9,000 patients in the Gaza Strip require evacuation for emergency care.

Just 10 hospitals currently functioning in the Palestinian territory, the WHO director general said.

Taking to X, formerly known as twitter, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that with only 10 hospitals minimally functional across the whole of Gaza, thousands of patients continue to be deprived of health care.

He added that about 9,000 patients urgently need to be evacuated abroad to provide them lifesaving health services, including treatment for cancer, injuries caused by bombardments, kidney dialysis and other chronic conditions.

Over 3,400 patients have so far been referred abroad through Rafah, Tedros said.

The WHO chief urged Israel to speed up approvals for evacuations to save lives critical patients.
