Pak-Iran trade deals: US hints at potential sanctions

23 April, 2024 12:50

The US has advised those considering trade deals with Iran to be aware of the potential threat of sanctions.

During a press briefing in Washington, the spokesperson of the US State Department said in response to a question about Pakistan-Iran trade agreements that the US is not evaluating possible sanctions against Pakistan. The US is Pakistan’s largest export market and one of its major investors.

He said that America has been a major investor in Pakistan for 20 years and Islamabad’s economic success is in the interest of both countries. We look forward to continuing our partnership, the spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has said that Palestinians will emerge successful in the war with Israel and Pakistan’s position against the Zionist forces is commendable.

The Palestinians will emerge as victorious, says the Iranian president during his visit to the Tomb of Iqbal in Lahore today.

He said that Israelis who oppress Palestinians will suffer defeat.

Allama Iqbal showed a new way to the Muslim Ummah, the president said.

He added that Iqbal’s poetry can play the role of a bridge in Iran-Pakistan relations. Pakistan and Iran have strong fraternal ties, he continued. The relationship between the two countries will grow stronger with time, he hoped.

It feels like I am at home during this visit to Pakistan, said Raisi.

Earlier, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi arrived in Lahore where, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz received him at airport.
