Pakistan closes Taftan border with Iran due to Coronavirus report.

Pakistani authorities closed Pak-Iran border at Taftan town in Chagai district on Sunday, to avoid spread of coronavirus reportedly found in Iran.

According to official sources, the transit gate and joint markets at the border have been closed, while trade and traveling activities suspended.

Authorities said precautionary and protective measures are being taken in Taftan where 100-bed tent hospital is being established to combat emergency situation at Pak-Iran border.

 

Meanwhile, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on National Health Services Dr. Zafar Mirza says the government stands ready to deal with any eventuality of coronavirus outbreak.

He said this while presiding over a meeting in Islamabad on Sunday.

Furthermore, he said well-trained staff is present at the Taftan and other border crossings to screen all passengers crossing over into Pakistan.

He said screening of passengers at all entry points of Karachi, Lahore, Quetta airports is being done in lines with International Health Regulations.

During the meeting, the special assistant was given a detailed briefing on the reported cases of Coronavirus in Iran.

Meanwhile, Special Assistant on Health Services Dr. Zafar Mirza has said that the government is alert and monitoring the situation closely regarding the outbreak of Coronavirus in Iran.

In a tweet, he said we are taking rapid actions to keep Pakistan safe.

The Special Assistant expressed concerns over the outbreak of Coronavirus in Iranian city Qom causing 5 deaths and expressed solidarity with Iran.

Dr Zafar Mirza said Pakistan fully supports the efforts of Iran for overcoming the Coronavirus outbreak.
