Consensus Standard Operating System evolved for stranded Pakistanis repatriation.
Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said this while presiding over a meeting in Islamabad today (Saturday).
He said the government is making vigorous efforts to bring back overseas Pakistanis, who are willing to come to their home country.
Consensus Standard Operating System
The FM said they have evolved a consensus Standard Operating System and Protocol for the repatriation of stranded Pakistani citizens.
He said so far we have brought back1,600 people through nine special flights, while thousands of others are waiting for their turn.
He said the government fully realizes the pain of overseas Pakistanis.
Foreign Minister said he has directed all the Pakistani embassies and foreign missions to take care of their brethren staying in foreign lands.
Shah Mahmood also urged workers of Tableeghi Jamaat to remain in touch with Pakistani ambassadors in Kenya, Tanzania, Sudan, and wherever they are staying.
He said a strategy is also being evolved for the repatriation of pilgrims.
Qureshi said efforts are being made for early release of detained Pakistani citizens in various countries.
The Foreign Minister urged the provinces to come forward and play their due role in establishing testing and quarantine facilities to complete the repatriation of Pakistani citizens.
FM-headed committee for organized repatriation
Earlie, FM-headed committee recommended organized repatriation of Pakistanis stranded abroad.
Shah Mahmood Qureshi said the prime minister had constituted under him a committee.
He further said that the committee has framed recommendations to ensure an organized and careful repatriation of these Pakistanis.
Moreover, he said overseas Pakistanis have always significantly contributed to the national economy.
He said the government would not leave them alone in this difficult hour.
The FM said the lockdown and closure of businesses in the gulf countries in the wake of coronavirus have rendered many of our overseas Pakistanis without livelihood.
However, the government remains fully cognizant of the problems of overseas Pakistanis including those stranded in different countries.
The Foreign Minister that the government had brought 1600 stranded Pakistanis back while 36,000
to 40,000 are waiting for the return to the homeland.
He said our missions and consulates abroad are extending every possible assistance to the stranded Pakistanis.
He said governmrn was using all resources to provide them accommodation, food and meet their other needs.
The FM called expatriate Pakistanis the “backbone of our economy.”
He vowed and we cannot leave them alone in this difficult time.
In the video message addressed to the overseas Pakistanis, he assured them of duty of the government to ensure the safe return of expatriates in the ongoing situation.
