Speaker National Assembly urges OIC to play role to curb Islamophobia

He asked the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to play its role to curb Islamophobia in the western world.

He said parliament will raise the issue of publication of blasphemous caricatures globally.

Minister for Religious Affairs Noor-ul-Haq Qadri said publication of blasphemous caricatures in a French magazine has hurt the sentiments of Muslims around the world.

He said blasphemous material will only stoke hate among the followers of different religions.

On the other hand, Saudi Ambassador continues to hold meetings with high officials of the government in Islamabad.

Nawaf Bin Said Al-Maliki called on Minister for Defense Pervez Khattak in Islamabad on Monday.

He discussed bilateral issues.

The Defense Minister said Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with Saudi Arabia.

However, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s public dissatisfaction over Saudi-led OIC’s inaction on Kashmir and Palestine issue had irked Saudi Kingdom.

But Saudi Arabia had rejected genuine concerns of Pakistan government.

Former Saudi ambassador Awad al Assiri had written an article to make public his reaction to Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s legitimate concerns. But he failed to clarify Saudi position on unsettled issues of Kashmir and Palestine.

It seems both sides are making efforts in what appeared damage control policy.
