Raja Pervez Ashraf foresees opposition leader slot in Senate for the PPP backed candidate due to the largest PDM party in the upper house.

Senior Vice President of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) Raja Pervez Ashraf Sunday expressed this hope.

He belongs to Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).

He further hope that the combined Opposition would amicably settle the issue of the leader of the opposition in the Senate.

The PPP leader hoped consensus among the combined opposition parties.

Raja noted it necessary in accordance with the established democratic norms and traditions.

Moreover, he also commented on reports that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

He said he had nominated its candidate for the slot of opposition leader in the Senate.

Raja said that PML-N was asking other parties in PDM to endorse its candidate for the same.

However, he reminded that with 21 senators in the upper house of the Parliament, PPP remains the  the single largest opposition party there.

Therefore, the PPP eyes he slot of opposition leader in the Senate in accordance with democratic traditions.

PMLN already holds 2 posts

Raja Pervez  also noted that PMLN holds the two other most important parliamentary positions like the opposition leader in the National Assembly and chairman of the public accounts committee.

Similarly, he said that now the third important parliamentary position the leader of the opposition in the senate should go to the largest opposition party.

He opposed this slot for the party which had already held the other two important parliamentary positions.

Furthermore, he said the PDM leaders meeting formed a committee. That would propose names for the slots of Chairman, Deputy Chairman and Opposition leader in Senate.

Raja Pervez represents the PPP in that committee as well.
