Sindh: Dengue fever claim 27 lives

Twenty six people died due to dengue fever in Karachi while one in Hyderabad on Monday.

The large influx of patients has been witnessed in all major hospitals of Karachi and Hyderabad as the department increased the number of beds up to 329 in all public sector hospitals.

The department also converted Covid-19 wards to dengue wards in Abbasi Shaheed hospital, Gazdarabad hospital, Rafiqui Shaheed hospital and Landhi hospital.

Talking to the Journalist, Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho said that in flood affected areas a large number of malaria cases have been reported while in Karachi and Hyderabad dengue virus is spreading fast.

According to the health department report more than five thousands cases have been reported while 27 people died due to dengue fever during the year.

The health department also launched Covid-19 vaccination drive for 11 years old to five years old children. The campaign was launched by minister health Dr Azra Pehcuho, American Deputy Chief of mission Andrew Shofar and acting consulate general.

Secretary Health Sindh Zulfiqar Ali Shah, DG health Dr Juman Bahoto and EPI Sindh director Dr Irshad Memon also present on the occasion.

He said that the campaign will be run till September 24.

Dr Pechuho further said that during the campaign our target is to immunize school going children as much as possible.

She said that parents of the children have also expressed their concern so that we made the Pakistan Pediatric Association as a partner for the vaccination drive.
