By-polls: Polling under way in Multan’s NA-148

Polling is underway in Multan for the by-election in NA-148 constituency.
The main contest is expected between the PPP’s Ali Qasim Gilani, the son of former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, and and the Sunni Ittehad Council-PTI coalition’s Barrister Taimur Malik.
Earlier, the seat had fallen vacant after PPP’s Yousuf Raza Gilani, who was elected Senate chairman, stepped down. In the recent general elections held on Feb 8, Gilani had bagged a narrow victory with a margin of just 293 votes.
The PML-N did not field its candidate for the by-poll and announced its support for the PPP candidate.
