SC resumes hearing SIC plea on reserved seats
The Supreme Court’s full court bench has resumed hearing the petition of the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) challenging the Peshawar High Court’s decision, which denied it reserved seats for women and minorities.
The 13-member bench, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa, is comprising all the available judges apart from Justice Musarrat Hilali. Justice Hilani is not part of the bench as she is suffering from heart ailment.
A three-member SC bench headed by Justice Mansoor Ali Shah had suspended the PHC verdict on May 6. It referred the matter to the judges’ committee for the formation of a larger bench since the matter required constitutional interpretation.
The lawyer of the Sunni Ittehad Council said that yesterday Justice Jamal Mandukhel’s question was why PTI did not contest the election as a party? Salman Akram Raja had applied for the same which was not approved and the PTI did not participate as a party in the elections.
The hearing has been adjourned till June 24.
