PTI’s Shafqat Mehmood announces to quit politics

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and former federal minister Shafqat Mehmood has announced to quit politics.

Shafqat Mahmood said in a statement on the social media site X, formerly known as Twitter  that he has decided to leave politics after much deliberation. He did not decide to leave politics because of any pressure.

Mahmood added that he has no intention to join any other political party. I resigned from government service 34 years ago and entered politics. I want to devote my remaining life to writing and teaching, he said.

He further said that this announcement is only about separation from politics and it is related to the requirement of time and age. I completely agree with those who say that youth should come forward in politics, he added.

Shafqat Mahmood said that there were many setbacks during this journey of politics. I was a member of the Senate and National Assembly and a federal and provincial minister. I was also put in jail. I performed responsibilities with utmost honesty, the former minister said.

He added that he is grateful to the PTI founder who gave him the opportunity to serve. I am grateful to PTI and the people of the constituency for representing them twice and thank to Allah. No one has made any false accusation against me till date, he continued.

Shafqat Mahmood further said that for the first time in the history of the country, he created a uniform curriculum and successfully managed the education system in the difficult time of Corona. I am satisfied with the fact that I fulfilled all the responsibilities honestly, he added.

The former minister further said that the spirit of serving the country will remain lifelong and hopefully this journey will continue through writing, teaching and media.
