Sindh govt to take over Sarim Burney Trust

KARACHI: Following allegations of child smuggling, the Sindh government has decided to take over the control of the Sarim Burney Trust, it emerged Wednesday.
According to sources, Social Welfare Department will oversee the operations of the Sarim Burney orphanage in Karachi.
This move comes after the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) requested intervention due to the trust’s alleged involvement in smuggling children to the United States and other countries.
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had said that Sarim Burney has admitted a mistake in his initial statement in the human trafficking case.
The first FIR 26/2024 had been registered against the social leader and head of Sarim Burney Welfare Trust Saram Barni with the human trafficking cell of FIA on charges of trafficking of children from Pakistan to the US.
On July 6,,the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had arrested renowned social activist Sarim Burney from Karachi airport.
According to sources inside the agency, there were very serious allegations against Sarim Burney, and his movement was being monitored for a very long time.
