Cut privileges of IPPs, Hafiz Naeem demands govt
Jamaat-e-Islami’s sit-in in Rawalpindi against IPPs contracts, expensive electricity and additional taxes on the salaried class entered its 10th day today.
Addressing the participants of the sit-in, Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Ameer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said: “Why don’t IPPs be reined in and reduce their privileges?” If the government does not accept the demands, the scope of the sit-ins will widen.
The JI chief further said that after Karachi, the sit-ins will also be staged in Peshawar and Lahore.
He said that a protest has been started in Karachi in support of the Rawalpindi sit-in and the city’s ameer Munem Zafar Khan is present at the Governor House along with the rally.
Earlier, Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Ameer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has refused to be a part of the Grand Alliance of the opposition.
Speaking on a local TV show, the JI chief said that they will take a proactive stance on some commonalities with the opposition and will also hold meetings but will not be part of any alliance.
He further said that the parties involved in the alliance make their “setting” later.
The JI leader said that the government thought that we would sit down for a day or two and leave. I want to tell the government that we have come here to get our demands fulfilled, he added.
It should be remembered that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Asad Qaiser, while talking to the national media after meeting the PTI founder in Adiala Jail, announced that in the next two weeks, he is going to form a grand alliance of the opposition, in which all opposition parties will be included. He aso supported the sit-in of Jamaat-e-Islami.
