Rashid Mahmood Langrial appointed FBR chairman
In a recent development, the federal government has appointed Rashid Mahmood Langrial, a grade-21 officer of the Pakistan Administrative Services (PAS), as the new Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
The appointment was made through a notification issued by the Establishment Division from the Cabinet Secretariat on Wednesday.
Langrial, an alumnus of Government College Lahore and Harvard Kennedy School, has a Master’s in Public Administration (International Development) and has authored a book titled “Story of the Fair Sex: Socioeconomic Conditions of Women Through Time”.
He has served in various government positions, including Chief Secretary Gilgit Baltistan, Commissioner Lahore Division, Secretary Agriculture Punjab, and CEO of National Power Parks Management Company.
The appointment comes after former FBR Chairman Amjad Zubair Tiwana resigned from his position on July 31, citing difficulties in working with senior officers of the tax collecting body.
Tiwana’s resignation followed criticism over issues such as digitization and bifurcation between IRS and Customs groups.
Langrial’s appointment is seen as a significant development in the government’s efforts to revamp the FBR and improve revenue collection.
During the last fiscal year, the FBR achieved a 30% growth in revenues, collecting Rs9,311 billion despite challenging economic conditions.
