Nawaz Sharif announces relief for electricity consumers, blames Imran for inflation
LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif announced that the Punjab government will provide a relief of Rs14 per unit on electricity bills for consumers using up to 500 units in August and September.
Addressing a press conference, Nawaz Sharif credited his daughter, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, for the initiative, stating that she had diverted funds from the developmental budget to provide relief to the people.
He praised her efforts in cutting government expenses from different sectors to make this relief package possible.
The PML-N leader also took the opportunity to criticize former Premier Imran Khan, blaming him for the current inflation in the country.
Nawaz Sharif claimed that during his tenure as Prime Minister from 2013 to 2017, the economy was thriving, and the country was praised globally for its emerging economy.
He recalled that the US dollar was pegged at Rs95 during his government and would have remained at Rs104 if he had stayed in power.
The former prime minister said that Punjab government has allocated Rs700 billion for a solar program aimed at providing relief to middle class.
