Security beefed for SCO meeting as all roads leading to Red Zone closed

Strict security arrangements have been made on the eve of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) conference being held in the federal capital.

The 23rd Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is set to begin today in Islamabad in which prime ministers and other dignitaries of eight countries including the host Pakistan are participating.

In view of tight security in Islamabad, all roads leading to Red Zone have been closed. Park Road has been closed at Bani Gala and Rawal Dam Chowk from Club Road.

According to the traffic police, Faisal Avenue at Faizabad and from IJP Road to I-8, Kashmir Highway to Convention Center and Bara Kahu to Murree Road have been closed.

Meanwhile, Pakistan is set to host the summit of the Council of Heads of Government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) today and tomorrow (Tuesday and Wednesday).

In this connection, stringent arrangements to ensure the event proceeds smoothly have been made. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will chair the high-level meeting.

The meeting will be attended by the prime ministers and high-ranking officials from the SCO member states, including Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and the Iran’s first vice president.
India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Premier of the State Council of China, Li Qiang, will also represent their respective countries.
