22 October, 2024 11:13

The 26th constitutional amendments have been challenged in the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

The petitioner, in his petition, prayed to the apex court to declare the constitutional amendments as null and void.

Muhammad Anas through his counsel Adnan Khan filed the plea in the court, challenging the 26th constitutional amendments.

The petitioner has made the federation as respondent in the plea.

The petitioner took the stance that the parliament has legislative powers and it may amend the Constitution with the two-thirds majority. However, the parliament has no right to interfere in judicial matters.

He continued that the 26th constitutional amendments are against the basic structure of the Constitution as well as the division of powers between the institutions.
