In a letter, over 60 US lawmakers urge Biden to press for PTI founder’s release, safety
PTI leaders caught over Imranβs confrontation policy
Over 60 members of the US House of Representatives have penned a letter to President Joe Biden and called on him to use Washington’s leverage with Islamabad for the release of the imprisoned PTI founder Imran Khan.
Imran Khan has been in jail since August last year after his conviction in the Toshakhana criminal case and subsequent sentencing in other cases ahead of the February 8 elections.
They added: “We write today to urge you to use the United States’ substantial leverage with Pakistan’s government to secure the release of political prisoners including former Prime Minister Khan and curtail widespread human rights abuses.”
The letter also appealed to US embassy officials to visit Imran Khan at Adiala Jail.
The development is the first such collective call from multiple US Congress members for the release of PTI founder.
