160 Pakistani parliamentarians challenge US Congressmen’s skewed view in letter to PM
Over 100 members of parliament have penned a letter Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and expressed concerns over a letter from US Congress members to President Joe Biden, in which they called for the release of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan.
In a tit-for-tat response, the lawmakers said: “We write to express our concerns over the unwarranted and inaccurate commentary on Pakistan’s domestic politics by 62 Members of the US House of Representatives.”.
They described the US lawmakers’ stance as a skewed view of realities.
The letter signed by 160 parliamentarians, including top leaders of key political parties, said that the US Congressmen’s appeal to President Biden tantamount to external interference and unfairly amplifies the political narrative of a single party at the expense of Pakistan’s state institutions and other political groups.
The development comes after the US MPs urged President Biden to use substantial leverage with Pakistan’s government for the release of political prisoners especially PTI founder Imran Khan.
The said letter also appealed the US embassy officials to visit Imran Khan at Adiala jail.
