Ban on weddings?
The Punjab government on Tuesday plans to discourage wedding ceremonies during the peak hours of smog in the month of November and December.
The development comes following the hearing of the Lahore High Court (LHC), where concerns about poor air quality and pollution were raised.
Justice Shahid Karim emphasised the need for a comprehensive 10-year policy to effectively combat the smog issue.
Punjab Advocate General Khalid Ishaq, who was representing the government, said that they are committed to environmental reforms.
He noted that significant resources from the government’s budget would be allocated towards initiatives for environmental protection and clean water.
Despite previous offers from Chinese experts to assist with pollution control, their expertise has yet to be utilized.
