With just over two months remaining in the retirement of current Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, the government of Pakistan has already mulling over his replacement with Qazi Faez Isa is favourite for the post.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has already sought out recommendations for the top Election Commission post.
It is reported that the ex-Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa is the leading contender for this role, largely due to his strong rapport with both the influential military establishment and its chosen leaders.
Sikandar Sultan will retire at end of January next year.
Moreover, Qazi Faez Isa’s appointment could provoke a strong reaction within the PTI, leading to protests against this contentious decision.
