Fresh tribal clashes in Kurram district leave 18 dead

23 November, 2024 20:35

At least 18 people were killed and 30 others injured in tribal clashes in Kurram district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The violent exchange of fire occurred in the Lower Kurram area, where two tribes clashed using heavy weaponry.

The intensity of the fighting has further deteriorated the security situation in the region.

In response to the escalating violence, Mohammad Hayat Hassan, Chairman of the Private Education Network, confirmed that all educational institutions in Kurram have been closed as a precautionary measure due to the ongoing unrest.

This incident follows a similar attack two days ago, when gunmen opened fire on passenger vehicles in various parts of Kurram, resulting in the deaths of 45 people, including six women and five children. Local authorities are working to restore order, but the situation remains tense.

Protests erupted in the region as residents demanded justice and condemned the recent violence. However, demonstrations in Kohat turned violent, with protesters stoning passenger vehicles and ambulances, setting a pickup truck on fire, and injuring the driver.

Traffic between Kohat and Hangu was disrupted, leading to long queues, and police were deployed to manage the unrest.

Demonstrators prayed for the victims and called on the government to take action to restore law and order, criticizing its inability to maintain peace in the region.
