Iconic Khunjerab border between Pakistan-China closed

The Khunjerab border, an iconic land link between Pakistan and China has officially been closed for all public traffic, trade and tourism.
The Khunjerab border crossing between the two countries will be closed for next four months under a bilateral agreement.
The border will remain closed until March 30, 2025, during the winter season.
Situated at an altitude of approximately 15,500 feet above sea level, the Khunjerab Pass experiences heavy snowfall and extreme weather during winter, making transportation and trade activities challenging.
As per a mutual agreement, it operates seasonally, opening annually from April 1 to November 30 to facilitate trade, tourism, and public traffic.
This year, the border was closed a day earlier due to regular weekend holidays on Saturday and Sunday.
The border is expected to reopen on April 1, 2025.
