Over 200 Pakistani pilgrims stranded in crisis-hit Syria

Over 250 Pakistani pilgrims are stranded in crisis-hit Syria following the lightning offensive by rebels, which resulted in the ouster of President Bashar-al Assad.

Cham Wings Head Tariq Samiullah confirmed that the rebels have closed the airport, halting outbound flights from the country.

Samiullah said that our flight scheduled for Lahore today has been cancelled. He added that another flight destined for Karachi on December 11 has also been cancelled.

On the other hand, pilgrims reported uncertainty regarding Cham Wings’ flight schedule for the day, with no clear updates provided.

Meanwhile, the situation in Damascus remains tense as firing in the Sayyidah Zaynab area created widespread panic and fear among those present in the vicinity.

Syrian rebels announced today they had taken Damascus, sending President Assad fleeing and ending five decades of Baath rule in the war-wrecked country.

The swift takeover after over 13 years of civil war took the world by surprise.

Syria’s army command also notified officers today Bashar al-Assad’s regime had ended.
