FBR restricts travelers from bringing goods worth over $1,200 into Pakistan

10 December, 2024 00:07

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has issued new guidelines aimed at restricting passengers traveling to Pakistan from bringing items in large quantities.

According to the notification released on Monday, goods worth over $1,200 will be classified as commercial items and subject to strict regulations.

The FBR has provided a seven-day window for stakeholders to submit recommendations regarding the definition of “commercial quantity.” Any submissions made after this period will not be accepted.

Under the new guidelines, passengers are allowed to bring only one mobile phone for personal use. Any additional phones will be confiscated by authorities. Furthermore, items brought from abroad exceeding the $1,200 threshold will not be eligible for release, even upon payment of duties, taxes, and redemption fines.

The new regulations are intended to curb the importation of goods under the guise of personal baggage, with a focus on preventing smuggling and ensuring compliance with trade laws.
