Female nurse’s hair shaved for wanting to marry against family’s will

A young nurse’s wish to marry her colleague led to a shocking incident of family violence in Malir district, as her family opposed the marriage and resorted to shaving part of her head as punishment.

The police files a case against the accused and arrested five suspects, including the girl’s father, mother, and grandmother.

SHO Firasat Hussain told media that the victim, who is 22 years old, works as a paramedic at a local hospital. He said an FIR (No 831/24) at the Quaidabad Police Station was filed.

The victim had expressed her wish to marry a man who works with her at the same hospital that led to severe backlash from her family.

Upon refusal, her father and other family members, including a paternal uncle, physically assaulted the nurse, shaving off her hair to prevent her from going outside.

The investigation revealed that the victim’s parents had separated seven months ago and she and her sisters had moved to her mother’s place, a rented house.
