2024 witnessed highest number of terrorists eliminated compared to last 5 years: ISPR
Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry is addressing a press conference at the General Headquarters, Rawalpindi.
The presser comes a day after a military court sentenced 60 individuals for involvement in May 9 riots.
This is ISPR spokesperson’s 5th media briefing this year.
The DG ISPR said noted that 2024 witnessed the highest number of terrorists eliminated compared to the past five years.
He added that Pakistan has fought a long war against terrorism rendering many sacrifices in this fight.
Over 59,779 intelligence-based operations were carried out against terrorists during the year and 925 terrorists, including khawarij, were killed and several others were arrested, Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry told media men.
He said this was the biggest number of terrorists killed in a single year during the past 5 years.
He further said that the Pakistan Army and other law enforcement agencies are conducting over 169 operations to counter the scourge of terrorism on a daily basis.
The armed forces have successfully thwarted numerous terrorist plots, the army’s spokesperson said.
The DG ISPR, highlighting regional challenges, said that Pakistan has consistently worked to establish peace in Afghanistan. However, terrorist activities from Afghan soil continue to pose a threat to Islamabad, he added.
He stressed the roots of terrorism are often traced back to Afghanistan. Pakistan remains determined to dismantle terrorist networks without compromise, he added.
