Karachi: Traffic plan unveiled for New Year’s Eve

Karachi Traffic Police have unveiled a detailed plan to facilitate commuters on New Year’s Eve. Under the plan,  several roads leading to Sea View will be closed between December 31 and January 1, 2025.

This plan has been devised in response to anticipated crowds heading towards popular coastal points such as Clifton, Bagh Ibn-e-Qasim, and Sea View for New Year’s celebrations.

Besides the road closures, security will be beefed up across the city, imposing Section 144 imposed, banning arms, aerial firing, and firecrackers for two days.

The residents of Defence Housing Authority (DHA) have been advised to use alternative routes to avoid congestion.

Closed Roads:

PIDC Chowk (Ziauddin Road) to Ziauddin Bridge towards Lucky Signal

PIDC Chowk to Club Road

Bilawal Chowrangi to Bahria Underpass

Do Talwar to Abdullah Shah Ghazi Shrine

Abdullah Shah Ghazi Shrine to 26th Street

Alternative Routes:

For residents of Sunset Boulevard, Korangi and Gizri: Korangi Road, Sunset Boulevard, Gizri Bridge, Saudi Signal towards Khayaban-e-Shamshir and McDonald’s Sea View road.

For travelers from North Nazimabad, Gulberg, Liaquatabad, and others: M.A. Jinnah Road, Garden Road, Zaibun Nisa Street, Avari Light Signal, Sindh Club Chowk, Teen Talwar towards Zam Zam Boulevard, and McDonald’s Sea View road.

For those coming from Bin Qasim, Gadab Landhi, Korangi, Shah Faisal, etc.: Sharea Faisal, Sindh Club Chowk, Teen Talwar, Race Course Signal, Chaudhry Khalid-uz-Zaman Road, Gizri Bridge, Saudi Signal towards Khayaban-e-Shamshir and McDonald’s Sea View road.

For those traveling from Boat Basin and Mai Kolachi: Jinnah Bridge, Bilawal House Chowrangi, Marine Road (Hyperstar) towards McDonald’s Sea View.

The traffic police said that the Mauripur Road will be closed for heavy traffic, including trucks and tankers that will be diverted towards Hub River Road and Sharea Pakistan.

They added that the parking will be prohibited on key roads including Shahrah e Faisal, Korangi Road, Abdullah Haroon Road, Dr Ziaduddin Ahmed Road, Mai Kolachi Road, and MT Khan Road.

Traffic police ahs warned strict action against vehicles and motorcycles without silencers, reckless drivers during the New Year celebrations.
