Soldier martyred, six terrorists killed in attack on aid convoy in Kurram

16 January, 2025 23:34

An aid convoy heading to the troubled area of Parachinar was forced to turn back after unknown armed men opened fire on one of the vehicles near Lower Kurram Bagan.

The convoy, which was carrying essential medical supplies and commodities, was stopped from reaching its destination due to the attack.

Assistant Commissioner of Hangu, Saeed Mannan, confirmed the incident and stated that the administration is working to restore control over the situation following the attack in Bagan.

Sajid Turi, a former federal minister from Kurram, reported that both small and large weapons were used in the attack.

The attack occurred just days after a peace agreement was signed on January 1, though the situation remains volatile. On January 4, a government convoy was attacked in the same area, leaving the deputy commissioner injured.

Despite the authorities’ efforts to secure the route and ensure the safe delivery of aid, the convoy of 35 vehicles was unable to reach its destination.

However, Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif, advisor to the Chief Minister on Information and Public Relations, noted that a separate convoy of 40 trucks had successfully delivered essential goods to Kurram district just last week.

Saif credited the successful aid operations to the cooperation of the Kurram Peace Committee, local peace groups, and the grand jirga, which facilitated the restoration of roads and the safe transportation of goods.
