18 January, 2025 22:35

A Pakistani neuroscientist arrested in the US custody has hoped that she will be freed after new evidence came to light which may suggest her innocence.

Dr Aafia Siddiqui, 52, stated this while speaking to Sky News.

She was once one of the most wanted women in the world for her alleged links to al Qaeda’s leadership. In 2010, she was jailed for 86 years for allegedly attempting to murder an FBI agent in Afghanistan.

Dr Aafia Siddiqui, “Lady al Qaeda” by her critics, has maintained her innocence,  hoping the tide could now be turning.

She told the media house through her lawyer that she hopes she is not forgotten, and she hopes that one day soon she will be released.

She added: “I am… a victim of injustice, pure and simple. Every day is torture… it is not easy.”

Dr Aafia further said that one day, Inshallah (God-willing) she will be released from this torment.

Clive Stafford Smith, the lawyer of Dr Siddiqui’s lawyer  is calling on outgoing US President Joe Biden to issue a pardon. In this connection, he has submitted a 76,500-word dossier to him.
