Imran appoints Junaid Akbar as PTI KP president, replacing Gandapur

25 January, 2025 22:00

On Saturday, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan appointed Junaid Akbar as the new president of the party in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

his move follows Akbar’s election as chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), which holds significant authority over financial oversight of government departments.

PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja confirmed the appointment, replacing Ali Amin Gandapur, who also serves as KP’s chief minister. Raja noted that Gandapur had expressed his preference to step down from the role of provincial president.

Khan has also tasked Raja with leading PTI’s restructuring in Punjab. In addition, sources revealed that Khan instructed the KP chief minister to focus on security and governance challenges in the province while addressing concerns over corruption.

Gandapur was also urged to distance himself from Dera Ismail Khan’s political scene. Akbar, who is also a Member of the National Assembly (MNA), fills the PAC chairmanship, a position vacant since the February 2024 elections.
