President Zardari signs PECA Act amid journalists’ concerns

President Asif Ali Zardari has given his assent to the controversial amended Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2025.
Earlier, the parliamentary reporters have raised their voice against the PECA Act through Maulana Fazlur Rehman to President Zardari, who delayed signing the bill until the journalists are taken into confidence.
The protest against the controversial PECA amendment bill started to take shape. The Parliamentary Reporters Association against the PECA Act contacted the President Asif Ali Zardari through JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, who conveyed their concerns to him.
Sources said that the president stopped the bill for some time on the request of Maulana Fazlur Rehman. President Asif Ali Zardari agreed to PRA’s request not to sign the PECA Amendment Bill immediately.
The sources said that Maulana Fazlur Rehman informed the president parliamentary reporters about the communication with the president.
A meeting between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and parliamentary reporters is expected soon.
It should be noted that the PRA delegation had yesterday requested Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the head of JUI-F, to speak to the president on the PECA Act.
