In a meeting with PM, IMF chief lauds Pakistan for effective program implementation

IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during which other important issues including program were discussed.

The two met on the sidelines of World Governments Summit 2025 in Dubai.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to maintain fiscal discipline and reiterated commitment to maintain progress in key areas, including tax reform, better performance of the energy sector.

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s House, the prime minister also assured the IMF team of the government’s commitment to the economic stability strategy, effective performance and sustainability of the plan.

On the occasion, Shehbaz Sharif said that in the meeting with IMF chief, we discussed Pakistan’s economic development and ongoing reforms, we reiterated the shared commitment for sustainable development and economic stability, appreciating IMF’s support on the journey from macro stability to sustainable development and prosperity.

During the meeting, the IMF chief appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in effective implementation of the programme and the prime minister’s personal commitment to implement the reform agenda.
