The federal government has announced that, as per established practice, it will revise the working hours for its employees during the upcoming holy month of Ramadan 2025 to ensure convenience for those observing fasting.
In line with this, the Establishment Division has issued a formal notification regarding the adjusted office timings for government employees during Ramadan. The change aims to provide relief and accommodate the religious duties of fasting workers.
Expected Adjusted Working Hours for Ramadan 2025
It is anticipated that federal government offices will see a reduction of two to three hours in their operating hours for the month of Ramadan 2025.
For offices working five days a week, the new office timings are expected to be from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. For offices that operate six days a week, the working hours will likely be shortened further, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.
Additionally, on Fridays, the working hours for federal government offices will be adjusted to 9:00 am to 12:30 pm to accommodate the religious observance of the day.
Ramadan 2025: Moon Sighting and Predictions
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is scheduled to meet on February 28, 2025, to sight the moon and officially announce the beginning of Ramadan. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has already provided a prediction regarding the new moon.
According to the PMD, the new moon of Ramadan 1446 AH will be born at the crossing conjunction point at 5:45 am Pakistan Standard Time on February 28, 2025. However, the department has also confirmed that there is no chance of sighting the new moon on the evening of February 28, 2025, which will mark the 29th of Shaban 1446 AH.
The weather forecast predicts that most regions of the country will experience partly cloudy to fair weather on that day, further indicating that moon sighting will not be possible.
According to astronomical parameters, the Met Office said there is “No Chance of sighting the new moon of Ramzan 1446 AH on the evening of 28-02-2025 i.e on 29th Shaban 1446”.
When Will Ramadan 2025 Begin in Pakistan?
Based on the PMD’s predictions and the expected length of the month of Shaban, Ramadan 2025 will begin on March 2, 2025, which falls on a Sunday. This marks the start of the sacred ninth month in the Islamic calendar, also known as the “month of fasting.”
