First roza on March 2 as Ramadan moon not sighted in Pakistan
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced that the Ramadan moon was not sighted anywhere in Pakistan, confirming that the first fast will be observed on Sunday, March 2.
The committee, led by Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, held its meeting at the Auqaf Hall. No reports of moon sighting were received from any part of the country, including Lahore, Quetta, Karachi, and Islamabad, as confirmed by respective zonal committees.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the chances of moon sighting were low as the new moon was born at 5:44 AM and needed an age of 16 to 18 hours for visibility. Cloud cover was reported in Karachi, while the skies were clear in Punjab and Balochistan.
SUPARCO stated that due to the moon’s lower altitude and angular distance from the sun, it was not visible to the naked eye. The organization predicted that the moon might be sighted in Saudi Arabia on February 28.
Additionally, SUPARCO estimated that the Shawwal moon is likely to be visible on March 30, suggesting that Eid-ul-Fitr could fall on March 31. However, the final decision on moon sighting will be made by the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
