Security forces foil major terrorist attack on Bannu Cantt

Security forces successfully repelled a coordinated terrorist attack on Bannu Cantonment in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, killing at least six militants, sources confirmed on Tuesday.

According to security officials, heavily armed attackers affiliated with Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) attempted to storm the military compound using two explosives-laden vehicles.

However, they encountered strong resistance from security personnel, leading to intense clashes and subsequent explosions.

Security forces eliminated six militants at different entry points and detained several others.

The powerful blasts caused significant structural damage, including the collapse of a nearby house and destruction to a mosque in the vicinity.

Medical officials at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) reported that at least 15 civilians, including women and children, were killed in the explosions, while 25 others sustained injuries.

The attack comes shortly after a deadly suicide bombing at a religious school in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa that claimed six lives.

Pakistan has witnessed a surge in terrorist incidents since the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan in 2021, with militant groups intensifying their activities.
