PIA flight PK-306’s missing wheel found at Karachi airport
The missing wheel of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight PK-306 has been located at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi, near the remote parking bay close to Asfahani Hangar, according to airport authorities.
Technicians from the airport’s wheel maintenance team discovered the detached Airbus A320 tire near the landing gear of a grounded Boeing 777.
The Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) confirmed that the incident did not cause any casualties or financial losses. However, a formal investigation has been initiated to determine the cause of the wheel’s detachment.
The issue first came to light when PK-306 landed safely at Lahore Airport, and a post-landing inspection revealed that one of its six main landing gear wheels was missing.
Authorities were initially uncertain whether the wheel detached during takeoff, mid-flight, or upon landing.
With the wheel now recovered in Karachi, investigators are examining potential causes, including runway conditions or mechanical failure. The CAA and the Aircraft Accident Investigation Board are leading the probe to identify any underlying safety concerns
