PMD issues heatwave warning for Karachi

22 March, 2025 20:20

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted a heatwave in Karachi, with temperatures expected to exceed 37 degrees Celsius on Sunday.

According to the Met Office, the city recorded a maximum temperature of 36.9°C on Friday, with intense sunlight contributing to rising heat levels.

The minimum temperature earlier in the day stood at 21.1°C.

Low wind speeds in the afternoon exacerbated the warm conditions, while northwesterly winds from Balochistan are expected to further influence the weather over the weekend.

However, the PMD noted that sea breezes could provide some relief later in the day.

Humidity levels in Karachi reached 86% on Friday morning, though meteorologists suggest the relatively low overall humidity may prevent a significant increase in the heat index.

Weather experts have urged residents to take precautions, stay hydrated, and avoid prolonged sun exposure as warm and dry conditions persist across most parts of Sindh.

No significant weather activity has been forecast for the province in the coming days.
