Karachi’s Korangi Creek fire will continue for how many months?
Korangi Crossing fire still raging as efforts to extinguish
Shocking revelations of geologists regarding underground gas reserves in Korangi have come to light.
Geologist Dr Adnan Khan has described the underground methane gas reserves in Korangi Creek as an important opportunity for Pakistan. He said that there is a strong possibility of natural gas reserves in the place where methane gas is being released.
He further said that there are cracks in the underground rocks in Korangi Creek which are helping to bring the gas to the surface. Geological survey should be conducted for gas reserves at this place and the fire should be extinguished safely immediately so that the loss of gas can be prevented.
Dr Adnan Khan, Associate Professor, Department of Geology, said that the pressure of gas should be measured by extinguishing the fire so that the gas reserves can be estimated. The place where the gas is being released is layered rocks. There are 2 layers at this point.
He said that there are more than 25 million years old rocks under the Korangi creek, which have signs of the presence of coal along with gas and in the presence of large reservoirs, the fire is also likely to continue for months.
Dr. Khan added that oil and gas exploration data from 1963 to 2019 on the coastal belt of Karachi has given clear indications of the presence of hydrocarbon reserves in Korangi Creek.
