Karachi’s temperature may soar to 39°C, says Met Office
Karachi is expected to get even hotter in the next two days, with temperatures ranging between 37°C and 39°C on Friday and Saturday, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
The weather office stated that hot and dry north-westerly winds may blow during the day, while the cool sea breeze is expected to return in the evening.
On Tuesday, the city experienced intense heat, reaching 38.1°C with 53% humidity, while light winds blew from the north.
Chief Meteorologist Muhammad Afzal recently warned that temperatures across the country will rise significantly in the coming months. He pointed out that big cities like Karachi are especially at risk of heatwaves due to the “urban heat island” effect, which could also worsen drought conditions.
Most areas in Pakistan will see temperatures rise 2°C to 3°C above normal, while Karachi could experience an increase of up to 4°C, making the heat even more unbearable.
The PMD has advised people to stay hydrated, avoid going out during peak hours, and conserve water to cope with the increasing heat and water shortage.
