When are next public holidays in Pakistan in 2025?

03 April, 2025 13:45

People in Pakistan have returned to work after enjoying three public holidays (March 31 – April 2) for Eid-ul-Fitr 2025.

Schools, colleges, and other educational institutions have reopened, but student attendance remains low. A full return to classes is expected by April 7 (Monday).

The federal government has released the list of public and optional holidays for 2025, covering important events for both Muslims and minority communities.

Upcoming Public Holidays in Pakistan

There are no public holidays in April, but two are scheduled for May 2025:

  • May 1 (Thursday) – Labour Day

  • May 28 (Wednesday) – Youm-e-Takbeer

Youm-e-Takbeer marks the nuclear tests conducted on May 28, 1998, which made Pakistan the seventh nuclear power in the world and the first Muslim country with nuclear capability. This achievement strengthened the country’s defense and established strategic balance in the region.

The vision of former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, who once stated that Pakistan would endure hardships but achieve nuclear power, led to this milestone.

Despite international pressure, then-Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif made the bold decision to carry out the nuclear tests, securing Pakistan’s defense position.
