Punjab issues new instructions for schools due to heatwave alert

08 April, 2025 16:40

LAHORE: The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has given a warning about a heatwave for April, stating parts of Central and Southern Punjab are likely to experience above normal temperatures. The temperatures could be over 4 to 7°C above normal, particularly in the plains and southern areas of the province.

To ensure the students’ safety, the PDMA has ordered the School Education Department to cancel all outdoor activities in schools. The public has also been advised to take precautions, such as avoiding unnecessary travel, using head coverings, and maintaining hydration in the heat.

The PDMA has also directed that medical assistance and necessary medications are provided for heatwave victims. The people, especially children, women and the elderly, are advised to be extremely careful and to stay at home during peak hours of the heatwave.

Meanwhile, a mild westerly weather system is expected to reach upper Pakistan on April 8 and may continue until April 11. This will likely bring rain, wind, and thunderstorms to Murree, Galiyat, and the immediate area, with dust storms followed by rain also predicted for the Potohar region.

The authorities are monitoring the situation and may issue further updates if needed.
