Gohar Denies Invitation for US Delegation Meeting

15 April, 2025 11:50

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has refuted claims of being invited to a recent meeting between Pakistani officials and a visiting US delegation, according to reports  on Tuesday.

While speaking to the media on Monday, Gohar clarified that he received no formal invitation or message — neither via WhatsApp nor any other official channel. He emphasized that PTI believes any bilateral agreements should reflect Pakistan’s national interest and welcomed foreign support for the country during diplomatic visits.

“As far as I know, I have not received any call or message; I have not seen any card or invitation from the American embassy. If there was any contact with us, we would definitely go,” he stated.

Separately, PTI senior leader and Opposition Leader in the Senate, Syed Shibli Faraz, criticized National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq for not inviting opposition leaders from both houses — including Gohar — to the meeting with the US Congressmen, despite inviting other political figures. Faraz said this exclusion was not just an attack on PTI but an affront to the dignity of the Parliament itself.

Meanwhile, PTI leader Atif Khan, who did attend the meeting, confirmed that no discussions took place in his presence regarding PTI’s founder or his possible release. He mentioned that both he and Dr. Amjad were present from PTI’s side and was later informed that Barrister Gohar and Omar Ayub may have been invited — though he could not verify it.

Khan added that the meeting largely focused on strengthening Pakistan-US bilateral ties and included representatives from various political parties and government ministers.

“I do not know whether the two leaders were invited or not; people from political parties and federal ministers were present in the meeting,” he noted.

Additionally, PTI Information Secretary Waqas Akram declared that the party has no interest in engaging in dialogue with what he described as “puppet rulers” who lack both public mandate and authority. He reiterated the PTI founder’s unwavering commitment to constitutional supremacy, genuine democracy, rule of law, and national sovereignty.

Waqas also directed criticism at Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, urging him to focus on his own uncertain political standing rather than commenting on PTI and Imran Khan’s affairs.
