Holiday announced on April 17

Govt announces public holiday in Karachi tomorrow
The Sindh government has declared a public holiday on April 17 in a constituency of the Umerkot district due to the upcoming by-election in National Assembly constituency NA-213. An official notification has been issued in this regard, ensuring that all activities in the area remain focused on the electoral process.
The NA-213 seat became vacant following the passing of MNA Nawab Yousuf Talpur in February this year. In light of the election, the provincial government has taken this step to facilitate smooth conduct and participation.
Earlier this month, on April 4, the Sindh government had also announced a public holiday across the province in honor of the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. The holiday served as a tribute to Bhutto’s lasting contributions and his legacy as the founder of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
All provincial government offices, autonomous bodies, corporations, and local councils—except those involved in essential services—remained closed on that day.
In a related tribute, President Asif Ali Zardari posthumously awarded the Nishan-e-Pakistan to Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto last month. The award was received by his daughter, Sanam Bhutto, marking a poignant and historic recognition of Bhutto’s service to the nation.
